Naming rights are sold to United Airlines. Despite the lease agreement allowing USC to rename the stadium as long as "Memorial Coliseum" remains in the modified name, concerns are raised by local veterans groups and the Coliseum Commission over renaming the stadium to United Airlines Memorial Coliseum. United Airlines offers to withdraw its deal for $69 million over 16 years before a compromise is reached.
The official name becomes United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The revised deal is for 10 years at an undisclosed amount. Since current NFL tenants, the Los Angeles Rams, have a sponsorship with American Airlines, the stadium's name officially reverts to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum during Rams games, and signage for United Airlines is removed.
